Show Notes

Richard James (@rjames_BTC) is best known in Bitcoin circles as the creator of the films Hard Money, Petrodollars and Anatomy of the State, but he’s also a small business owner from Melbourne, Australia who holds his balance sheet in Bitcoin. He’s a proper bitcoiner!
We first met Richard at the Murrurundi Bitcoin Bush Bash, where unfortunately Brendo let us all down with his audio skills 😉 and the quality was just not good enough to include in the roundup. So, we wanted to make up for it and sit-down with Richard long-form and discuss his Bitcoin story and his thoughts as to what comes next.
We jump around a lot on this one (that’s on me, sorry), but it was a great back and forward with someone who brings an interest and knowledge in diverse areas such as, small business, travel, history, Austrian economics, government and money but who also has the ability to story-tell in a manner that’s approachable to the average person. Seriously...watch the films (and share with a friend)!

We also discuss:
His decision to take his travel business onto a Bitcoin Standard and how that decision insulated it from the negative effects of the Covid response.
How he thinks about the management of a business that holds its treasury in Bitcoin.
How Bitcoin has changed his outlook on life, politics and becoming involved in a community that views the world differently.
Our mutual love/hate relationship with Twitter.
The need to write and create to get your thoughts about Bitcoin straight in your own head and being able to share it with others being a secondary concern.
The gap for quality video content at the time of creating Hard Money but doing it without any Bitcoin contacts at all.
Telling a story about Bitcoin, without mentioning Bitcoin.
The hidden tax of inflation, and why Bitcoin solves the problem.
Reaching out to bitcoiners and the positive response to cold DM’s.
The future for governments on a Bitcoin Standard...do we try and fix the current model, or just build an alternate system.
Making the distinction between government itself and a government employee.
Localism, local self-determination and the El Salvador case study.
Coming to the end of multiple cycles.
Which countries will be next to adopt Bitcoin.
If you’re interested in doing the Kokodo Track, have a great idea for a Bitcoin film or just want to connect with a good bloke, hit Richard up on Twitter.
