Show Notes

The university wanted a bridge for its students over a busy roadway that would appear intriguing from afar. Instead it collapsed before it was even finished. We look into how design errors, poor peer review and denial led to a collapse that claimed six peoples lives. With John Chidgey. This show is Podcasting 2.0 Enhanced

My son was a student at this university when the bridge collapsed and we drive that road frequently. I’m thankful for your careful research - sadly we had other structural failures in South Florida since then. I’d love to hear an episode on the building collapse in Surfside, FL. Def a fan even though I know next to nothing about engineering.
I started researching the Surfside collapse however I was waiting on a formal report to be released from NIST. I'll check back in again and see how that's getting along. Thank you!

This is a fascinating show
Thank you SO much for sharing this. I live in Miami and my son was a student at FIU when this happened - he or my family literally could have been on that road when the bridge collapsed. I’m grateful smart people are willing to evaluate why things went wrong.
hey thank @mrmr, found the show through his boost! Wild that you were there at the time. Curious, what did the media say about the cause of the collapse locally? I remember seeing something on alt media like Zerohedge about “this is what happens when D&I meets engineering” but that was obviously nonsense.
Here we heard much more talk about the problems with poor management, sweetheart deals with builders, and other malfeasance that usually accompanies Miami politics. I can’t say I was paying much attention as my thoughts were mostly how my son could have been on that road.
Glad you're enjoying the show :)
